SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – After a medical call at a retirement facility, a San Diego firefighter challenged a 101-year-old to a game of ping-pong. But judging by the video, he wasn't ready.

San Diego Fire-Rescue posted a video of the matchup on Instagram.

SDFD said crews responded to the call on Aug. 28 at a local retirement community. While there, the firefighters spotted a 101-year-old woman at a ping-pong table by herself.

"They spotted a woman bouncing a ping-pong ball alone. They asked the staff about this woman and were told that she is 101-years-young and always looking for a worthy ping-pong opponent," SDFD wrote.

After putting the patient needing help into the ambulance, firefighter Nick Plancich took on the role of the worthy opponent.

As the video above shows, Plancich hung in there for a few volleys, before the woman served a quick spike for the win.

"She proved to be a winner! Another example of City of San Diego employees taking a few moments to share joy," SDFD added.
