Security amps up for Big Bay Boom fireworks show

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--With an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 spectators expected to head to San Diego Bay to enjoy the Big Bay Boom fireworks show this Fourth of July, extra security measures have been put in place to make sure attendees are safe.

According to Harbor Police, enhanced security measures were put in place including a full safety plan for the show, but they encourage participants to report anything that seems suspicious: If you see something, say something.

The U.S. Coast Guard said it is ready to respond should any peril befall revelers but will prevent any such security incidents from happening using the following efforts:

  • Enforce a 1,000-foot security zone around the four barges in the bay
  • Prevent any boat traffic from coming near the pyrotechnics, which will protect both the public and the barges
  • Increase patrols with the help of the Coast Guard Auxiliary
