What is your job?
My job is to lead our newsroom’s editorial and operational process. I work with our teams in front of the camera and behind the scenes to create compelling content that you see on all your devices. I also help lead our teams in long-term planning of major events including election coverage, presidential visits and wildfire coverage. We have a passionate team of journalists and I am proud of the hard work they do each day to serve our community.
When did you start working here?
I first started working here at ABC 10News in 1996 as a summer intern. I was officially hired in 2000 as a producer. I have been a news manager since 2006. I am especially grateful to Herb Cawthorne, a former ABC 10News reporter, who served as my mentor and let me tag along to stories even when he was under deadline. He taught me to find the humanity in every story.
Where else have you worked?
I have worked at KEYT, the ABC News affiliate in Santa Barbara, as a writer and producer from 1997 to 2000. I also briefly served as interim news director at KTNV, our ABC News affiliate, in Las Vegas.
Where did you go to college?
I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a Minor Degree in Global Peace and Security from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
I hold a Juris Doctor Degree from California Western School of Law.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Poway and am a proud graduate of Poway High School, go Titans!
What are some of the biggest news stories you have covered or led coverage of?
The 2003 wildfires, 2007 wildfires, the murders of Danielle Van Dam, Chelsea King and Amber Dubois, the 2008 economic downturn and housing crisis, local and national election coverage over the past two decades, most recently COVID-19.
What is your philosophy on news?
Our longtime company motto is, Give light and the people will find their own way. I believe in the power of storytelling and the importance of shining a light on the issues that are impacting our community. We have a responsibility to report all sides with accuracy, integrity and fairness.
What do you love about living and working here?
I grew up watching ABC 10News and feel very fortunate to work at the station I love, in the city I love. My family and I enjoy visiting Balboa Park and the USS Midway Museum.
