With the tax deadline extended to July 15, millions of taxpayers still need to file. As of May 29, 2020, the IRS reported receiving 133.8 million federal income tax returns compared to 143.1 million returns during the same time last year. Throughout the pandemic, H&R Block has taken various steps to help taxpayers get access to their much-needed refunds but it realized there was still more they could offer as the extended tax filing deadline approaches.
To help taxpayers and provide them with another option, H&R Block launched a new pick-up tax service in parts of San Diego. The service, available at participating locations, allows clients to schedule a pick-up appointment where an H&R Block associate will come to their house to securely retrieve their tax documents, allowing them to work remotely with their tax preparer. It was created for clients who want the confidence and support of having an expert tax pro handle their paperwork—without having to submit it online or go to an office.
“According to a recent H&R Block survey, 54% of San Diego residents are anxious about leaving their homes. Whether clients are immunocompromised, serve in jobs requiring them to self-quarantine or simply remain cautious, H&R Block is here to help,” said Karen Orosco, senior vice president of U.S. retail, H&R Block. “We’re proud to offer this new service as one more way we are providing our clients with access to the help and expertise they need to get their maximum refund even during these unprecedented times."
Overall, H&R Block’s survey found that 56% of Americans say they feel anxious when they think about having to leave the house. In fact, 47% say they are only leaving their home for essential reasons. Pick-up service is another option for those who want help from a tax pro but don’t want to leave home.
Pick-up service through H&R Block is offered through the extended deadline in parts of San Diego. There is no additional cost for a pick-up, however, appointments must be scheduled with the local office. With safety measures in place for everyone’s well-being, and flexible options to file, H&R Block offices remain open for clients to access their much-needed refunds. In addition to pick-up service, clients have options to schedule appointments or use drop-off services at an office, or to use virtual and do-it-yourself online software and desktop products.
