Police: Woman admits to stabbing boyfriend in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - A 26-year-old man is fighting for his life after allegedly being stabbed by his girlfriend when she found him asleep with her older sister early Sunday morning at a duplex near the Chula Vista Mall.

The incident began at about 9:30 a.m., when Chula Vista police officers at the mall were approached by a bloody 19-year-old woman who told them she had just stabbed her boyfriend.

The woman told officers they had gotten in a fight at a duplex in the 500 block of Jefferson Street.  Officers responded to the home and found the man sitting in a car outside. He had four stab wounds and cuts to his face and arm.

The officers then entered the apartment to find the suspect’s 25-year-old sister, who told them she was getting ready to drive the victim to a hospital. Neither had called 911, police said.

The man was transported to University of California San Diego Medical Center, where he was set to undergo surgery for life-threatening injuries.

Both the victim and the suspect’s sister told police that they had come home early Sunday morning after a night of drinking at a bar. They said they fell asleep, fully clothed, on her bed, and then awoke to find the suspect angrily stabbing her boyfriend. The two fought her off, and she walked to the mall, where she contacted the officers.

Meanwhile, the suspect has told investigators that the stabbing was in self-defense.  She was also taken to UCSD with facial injuries.

No names were released. The investigation is ongoing.
