SAN DIEGO - San Diego police on Wednesday are searching for whoever shot and wounded a person in Clairemont.

The shooting occurred at about 8:10 p.m. near an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Mt Alifan Drive. Officers raced to the area and joined another officer who was already there.

"We had an officer in the area who had responded to an earlier call of narcotic activity," said San Diego police Capt. Brian Ahearn.

Although it is unclear whether that officer heard any gunshots, he was the first to find the victim at the apartment complex.

"So the officer checked the area and in fact located the victim on the ground who had sustained a gunshot wound," said Ahearn.

Police would only say that the shooting victim is male and that he was transported to the hospital.

One person was transported from the scene to Sharp Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

There is no word on any possible suspect or suspects involved. It is unclear how many shots were fired.
