LA MESA, Calif. - A man trimming a tree in La Mesa early Tuesday was fatally injured when a falling branch knocked him to the ground.
The incident was reported shortly after 8 a.m. on Date and Acacia avenues.
Family members at the scene told 10News that the victim is 41-year-old Joshua Alan Pudsey, and that he was in charge of the trimming project.
Firefighters said he was trimming the tree while in a cherry picker basket, when a branch knocked him over and sent him falling to the ground.He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbor Nathan Allan said the crew working on the trees had only been there for a few hours, but in an instant, he knew something was wrong.
"I didn't hear anybody scream, but everybody was in chaos," he said. "I didn't know if it hit a house or a person and … it hit a person."
Debbi Anderson, Pudsey's mother, said her son did not take unnecessary risks. She said all of his jobs were carefully planned out.
Anderson said Pudsey leaves behind his fiancee, who is pregnant.
10News has learned the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
