SAN DIEGO - Two lanes of state Route 163 in Mission Valley were briefly closed after a vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian.
The incident was reported on southbound SR-163 near Interstate 8 shortly before 7:30 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol told 10News that a man, possibly a transient, ran from the east side of the freeway to the west side of the freeway. He was struck by one vehicle and may have been run over by two others. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, the CHP does not believe it was a suicide, but says there are many transients in the area.
Two lanes of SR-163 were blocked while officers conducted their investigation. They were reopened as of 9:15 p.m.
