2-alarm blaze engulfs auto body shop in National City: Witnesses heard explosions coming from fire

NATIONAL CITY - A two-alarm fire that broke out at an auto body shop in National City Sunday night has been knocked down.

The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. at E & S Autoworks on 202 W. 11th St. and some neighboring businesses were evacuated, according to fire officials and National City police.

Flammable items were inside the auto body shop. Witnesses also reported hearing explosions coming from the fire.

Crews from National City and San Diego had the blaze knocked down at about 5:40 p.m., according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher. The fire was contained to one business. A hazardous materials team was called to investigate and clean up.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
