ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Officers arrested 25 juveniles violating Escondido’s 10 p.m. curfew during a citywide sweep Friday night. All were released to their parents or guardians, police said.
According to police, each of the 18 boys and seven girls arrested Friday were screened for eligibility in the Escondido Police Department's Diversion Program.
Criteria evaluated included his or her criminal history, severity of the offense and the cooperation of the juvenile and his or her parents.
Police said 16 of those arrested in the sweep were sent to the diversion program and nine referred to juvenile court. The program is geared toward improving decision-making abilities in an effort to reduce further contacts with law enforcement.
Police officials said they planned to conduct frequent sweeps throughout the remainder of the year to search for juveniles ignoring the 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.
