Tropical Storm Hanna Moves Closer

Hurricane Center Watching Threat To U.S. Coasts

POSTED: 4:01 pm PDT August 30, 2008

While many people along the Gulf Coast watch Hurricane Gustav, many others on the East Coast are keeping an eye on another storm.

The National Hurricane Center reported Saturday that Tropical Storm Hanna was projected to near the Turks and Caicos Islands late Sunday or Monday.

Hanna is then expected to track toward the Bahamas by Tuesday. It could then be the second storm in less than a week to target Cuba. From there, its direction is even more uncertain.

As of Saturday, Hanna had sustained winds near 50 miles per hour.

Those winds already raise concern about rip current along some parts of the southern coast.
