An unseeded Hewitt handled German Philipp Petzschner 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. The former world No. 1 Hewitt is a two-time major champion, including a Wimbledon championship in 2002.

Up next for Hewitt will be tough Czech Radek Stepanek.
