SAN DIEGO -- For a certified sports fan like Frank Castillo watching Monday Night Football in high definition doesn't get any better.
But finding the right television set for all viewing enjoyment is not an easy task. Consumers are faced with so many choices and options, making a decision on what to get confusing.
"HTMI, DVI component, high-def, 16 by 9, I mean it just goes and goes. It's so easy to be overwhelmed right from the beginning," Castillo said. And Castillo's a technical engineer for 10News.Two factors come into play more than anything else: size and, of course, budget. When considering a screen there are plenty to choose from, like big screens, high definition screens, and plasma screens.According to Convoy Audio and Video in San Diego the CRT or rear projection television sets are the most affordable. The most expensive are the ultra-thin plasma sets."Bottom line is, if you want to hang something on the wall, the cooler it gets, the more it costs," sales manager Keith Lee said.Another consideration are television sets that are high definition ready and require a separate tuner and antenna to get high definition signals into them. A digital cable box or high definition satellite dish will do the same, but they cost more per month as well. There's also the sound to consider."You have to have surround sound. That's where the big wow is -- that's an impact," Lee said.Castillo agreed that the combination of a high definition set and surround sound is phenomenal."When I go home and watch my regular TV it's crazy, I want to stay all the time and watch -- it's beautiful," Castillo said.
