RIAA Expands Lawsuits Against File Traders

The Recording Industry Association of America announced Wednesday that it plans to file 41 new lawsuits this week against alleged illegal file traders.

The trade group also said it will send out 90 letters notifing people that it intends to file suit in the future.

Since September, the group has sent 308 notification letters and filed 341 lawsuiits.

The group says that 220 people have reached settlements and 1,054 have submitted affidavits as part of an amnesty program.

In a news release, the RIAA said that a recent survey found that 56 percent of people support the strategy to go after and shut down illegal file traders.
