SAN DIEGO -- A man carrying a bank bag was pushed to the ground and robbed Friday in the parking lot of a bank near Rolando, authorities said.

The attack happened at the Bank of America branch in the 6800 block of El Cajon Boulevard about 10:05 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick. He was carrying a bank bag.

The man was approached by a tall, mustachioed black man in his 20s, who pushed him to the ground and took the bag, Battrick said. No weapon was seen.

The robber, who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with black stripes, ran toward the back of the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, Battrick said.

10News learned authorities are trying to determine if the suspected robber man in Friday's robbery is the same man responsible for similar "snatch-and-run" robberies outside San Diego banks in recent days.

Peter Ferioli, the victim in Friday's incident, told 10News, "The man ran at me and grabbed me in a bear hug, wrestled with me for a few seconds. I let go of the bag because I figured I'd get hurt if he had a knife or something. Then he ran over back around the corner."

Friday's incident was similar to two other robberies dozens of miles apart on Thursday. The first incident was at a Bank of America branch in Carmel Valley, where a man was punched and his money bag was taken. Later in the day, there was a failed attempt inside a Wells Fargo branch in National City. In that incident, a customer in line fought back and held onto his bag, despite being pepper-sprayed. He chased and punched the would-be robber, who was then hit by a car but escaped in another vehicle that was waiting for him with two women inside. The robber's description was similar in all three incidents, and SDPD Lt. Jerry Hara told 10News, "Relatively the same -- tall, thin, light-skinned black male, usually in a [hooded] sweat shirt of some sort."

In the Rolando attack, Ferioli wound up with a scratch on his forearm. He wasn't badly shaken and didn't lose too much money.

"I was carrying coins; pennies, nickels and dimes, $45 worth," he said.
