10News honors Elena Hernandez for creating South Bay Women's Recovery Home (SBWRH), a non-profit organization which helps low income women to recover from drug and alcohol addiction.Elena started SBWRH in her own home by herself. She has recently added on four board members and moved into a larger home that can accommodate up to 11 women at a time.This recovery program has taken in over 30 women in the last 18 months. So far seven women have successfully completed the entire recovery program. SBWRH provides structure, counseling and other social services to help women turn their lives around. SBWRH encourages the women to build confidence and self esteem. The goal of SBWRH is to watch every woman who enters the program graduate to a life of sobriety and have a positive new outlook on life.
