Position: News Operations Manager

Description: McGraw-Hill Broadcasting in San Diego is currently seeking a News Operations Manager for its local media outlets, including 10News (ABC), Azteca America San Diego & 10News.com. This position will manage and lead the newsroom’s new media efforts, handle technical training for all newsroom employees, including digital correspondents (VJ’s), and will directly supervise news video editors. This position will be responsible for overseeing and managing technical equipment including Grass Valley and Final Cut Pro editing systems, camera and field equipment and the news vehicle fleet. Responsibilities will also include maintaining newsroom systems including breaking news protocols and newsroom style and policy guidelines and discrepancy report tracking on a central shared drive. The successful candidate will research and recommend news capital purchases, establish maintenance schedules for electronic news gathering equipment and assure compliance with all relevant DOT and FCC regulations. Other responsibilities will include working with the Chief Photojournalist on hiring, training and performance standards for all photojournalists.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will be a technical guru who lives and breathes emerging technology. Minimum of 5 years working in TV news, experience conducting technical training and 2 years supervisory experience required. Demonstrated experience working with digital media, specifically integrating old systems with new media, in a TV newsroom. Experience shooting, training others & troubleshooting with Panasonic P2 200 and 800 or equivalent camera. Grass Valley and Final Cut Pro editing experience required. Live truck operation experience including both SNG and ENG. Ability & willingness to fly in a helicopter when necessary. Degree preferred. Willing & able to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
