San Diego Chargers open 2013 regular season on 'Monday Night Football'

Chargers have 3 primetime games on schedule

SAN DIEGO - The Chargers are scheduled to play three primetime games this year, including their 2013 National Football League season opener against the Houston Texans, the team announced Thursday.

The first game for new head coach Mike McCoy will be Sept. 9, on Monday Night Football.

The Bolts host another Monday night contest Oct. 14 against Indianapolis, the former team of new general manager Tom Telesco.

The third prime time game is Thursday, Dec. 12, at Denver, where McCoy was the offensive coordinator before moving to San Diego.

The highly anticipated home game against the Broncos is set for Nov. 10, according to the schedule.

"It's exciting to finally see the schedule," McCoy said. "It looks like a fun schedule for our fans. Every year the schedule presents a long list of challenges, and this year is certainly no different."

San Diego will face all four NFC East teams, including a visit from Eli Manning and the New York Giants on Dec. 8. Manning was drafted with the top pick in the 2004 draft by the Chargers, but forced a trade to the Giants -- which brought quarterback Philip Rivers to San Diego.

However, the NFL granted the Chargers two consecutive home games to finish the season, against AFC West rivals Oakland and Kansas City.

The Chargers open their preseason schedule at home against Seattle on Aug. 8.
