Children and adults throughout San Diego County Tuesday will participate in an annual attempt to stage the world's largest synchronized swim lesson in hopes of setting a new Guinness World Record.
The fourth annual event, which starts at 8 a.m., is designed to draw attention to the importance of pool safety and reduce drowning incidents, according to World's Largest Swimming Lesson, which comprises several agencies, including the American Red Cross, National Parks and Recreation Association, the United States Swim School Association, World Waterpark Association, and others.
Last year, more than 24,000 people participated in the event worldwide, besting 2011's total of more than 20,000.
