Phil Mickelson makes cut at Farmers Insurance Open despite sore back

SAN DIEGO - Phil Mickelson handled his sore back well enough to make the cut. That doesn't mean he'll play on the weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Mickelson sounded unsure of his plans after a 1-over 73 on the South Course at Torrey Pines, leaving him eight shots behind. This is his hometown tournament, and he wants to keep playing.

The five-time major champion also is worried that he's protecting his back so much that he might get into bad habits.

It didn't help that he made bogey on the par-5 18th -- the easiest hole on the South Course -- with a wedge from the fairway. But after finishing his round, Mickelson said he would show up Saturday and decide whether it was worth it in the long run to play.
