Former NBA star Scottie Pippen questioned about role in Malibu fight

Witnesses: Pippen involved in Sunday altercation

MALIBU, Calif. - Former NBA star Scottie Pippen was questioned Monday about a fight in Malibu in which he allegedly punched someone so hard it knocked him out.

The fight occurred outside Nobu at 22706 Pacific Coast Highway about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, and Pippen surrendered to deputies at the Malibu station for questioning Monday.

"Witness statements indicate that Scottie Pippen was one of the combatants in the altercation, and currently a named suspect for a charge of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm," a sheriff's department statement said.

Pippen, a 6-foot-8- inch Hall of Famer forward, played with the Chicago Bulls 1987-1998, helping the team win six NBA titles.

According to, a man approached Pippen for an autograph, then a fight broke out. Pippen allegedly kicked the man after he fell, TMZ reported, and detectives were investigating the fight as an assault with a deadly weapon -- his shoes.

The man, who reportedly was knocked out, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a head injury, according to deputies who declined to name the person.

Pippen was questioned and released Monday afternoon.
