The Chargers' chaplain told 10News that he doesn't believe Junior Seau intentionally drove his SUV off of a cliff in Carlsbad Monday morning.
10News spoke with Shawn Mitchell as he was leaving Scripps Memorial hospital in La Jolla late Monday night. Mitchell said he's been friends with Seau for thirty years.
"The man I know loves his kids and loves his life," said Mitchell. He also said the legendary linebacker suffered a lot of bumps and bruises but nothing serious. Mitchell described Seau's mood as upbeat and grateful for his family's support.
Several of Seau's family members also left the hospital last night. They appeared in good spirits. They said Seau was "fine," but would not say when he would be released from the hospital. They also would not comment on the domestic violence accusation against him or the solo car crash that followed just a few hours later.
Police were called to the former Chargers star's Oceanside home Sunday night, when his live-in girlfriend, Mary Nolan, called police and said shed been physically assaulted. Police said she suffered superficial injuries and did not require treatment.
Seau was arrested on a charge of felony domestic violence, but posted bail at the Vista detention center a short time after he was taken into custody.
