Ben on the Bolts: Predicting the schedule

SAN DIEGO - The St. Louis Rams are offering $100,000 if a fan can correctly predict their 2014 schedule. The Chargers have not made a similar offer, but that doesn't mean I can't make my own guess and then see how close I get when the NFL releases the actual schedule (sometime later this month).

THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL SCHEDULE, JUST A GUESS ON MY PART:

MON, 9/8  @ Oakland Raiders: It's always a good bet to see the Chargers playing the late half of the opening Monday night doubleheader. Since they were at home last year (vs. the Texans), let's predict a road game this year. I originally had the Chargers headed to Arizona, but that seems unlikely since they wrap up the preseason against the Cardinals. The Oakland A's have a home game the previous afternoon, but will be on the road on this Monday, so it's one of the open dates in September when the Raiders can actually use their stadium.

SUN, 9/14 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: A good chance to get a win in the home opener. Hopefully, it'll be sold out.

SUN, 9/21 @ Kansas City Chiefs: The Chargers play a Sunday morning game at Arrowhead Stadium.

SUN, 9/28 vs. Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks will get a number of primetime games, but this won't be one of them. A Sunday afternoon visit to Qualcomm Stadium for the defending Super Bowl champs.

THU, 10/2 vs. New York Jets: Thursday night games in the first half of the NFL season will air on CBS as well as the NFL Network. Jim Nantz gets an early October trip to San Diego.

SUN, 10/13 @ Baltimore Ravens: A long week gives the Chargers some extra time to prepare for their first East Coast road trip of the season.

MON, 10/21 vs. Denver Broncos: ESPN gets the playoff rematch as the Broncos play another Monday night game at the Q.

SUN, 10/27 BYE WEEK

SUN, 11/3 vs. St. Louis Rams: Because they have to play the Rams sometime.

SUN, 11/10 @ Arizona Cardinals: I originally had this as the opener, but moved it back to November to put some time between the preseason meeting in late August.

SUN, 11/17 @ Miami Dolphins: The second of back-to-back road games with a 10 a.m. start on the East Coast.

SUN, 11/24 vs. Kansas City Chiefs: The Chargers complete their season series against Alex Smith and company.

SUN, 12/1 vs. New England Patriots: A flexible Sunday night game for NBC, but one they'll probably want to keep.

SUN, 12/9 @ Buffalo Bills: December snow in Orchard Park, N.Y.

SUN, 12/16 @ San Francisco 49ers: Save this one for later in the season after the two teams met on national television in the preseason.

SUN, 12/23 vs. Oakland Raiders: The home finale has the Silver & Black making their annual trip to Qualcomm Stadium.

SUN, 12/30 @ Denver Broncos: The final game of the season is always against a divisional opponent. There's a good chance television would want to save a juicy matchup in the Mile High City for the end of the year.
