Ben on the Bolts: Ouch

SAN DIEGO - When the Chargers announced Mike Harris had been placed on injured reserve and was out for the season, it was just another reminder that the Bolts have been unlucky on the injury front the past few seasons.

All teams deal with injuries, both major and minor, but the Chargers have been hit especially hard. The following is a list of players projected to either be starters or key reserves who were placed on IR since 2010, and how many games remained when they were lost for the season:

2013: Malcom Floyd (12), Danario Alexander (16), Jonas Mouton (16), Dwight Freeney (12), Steve Williams (16), Mike Harris (11), Melvin Ingram (PUP)

2012: Seyi Ajirotutu (4), Antwan Barnes (4), Atari Bigby (5), Vincent Brown (16), Malcom Floyd (2), Aubrayo Franklin (1), Jared Gaither (5), Richard Goodman (9), Nate Kaeding (10), Vaughn Martin (3), Ryan Mathews (2), Darrell Stuckey (3), Mike Windt (6)

2011: Luis Castillo (15), Stephen Cooper (11), Kris Dielman (10), Larry English (10), Nate Kaeding (15), Marcus McNeill (5), Jonas Mouton (14), Scott Mruczkowski (6), Bob Sanders (14)

2010: David Binn (15), Donald Butler (16), Buster Davis (8), Antonio Gates (1), Shawne Merriman (11), Jyles Tucker (12)

That's 321 games lost for key starters and reserves over the last 3-plus seasons, and that doesn't even include in-season injuries to players who missed games but later returned to the field.

It's no wonder the Chargers haven't made the playoffs since 2009.
