Rant One: Kenny's Getting Punchy
Next time you see Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers coming at you, you better know when to walk away and know when to run. In case you missed it, the veteran left-hander attacked a cameraman this week for no apparent reason. Like most out there, I am completely baffled by this behavior. He's 40 years old, battle-tested and having a great season. There's no reason for him to be so edgy -- except for rumors that he's not happy with his contract. Even so, I am at a complete loss for words -- and that doesn't happen very often.
Rant Two: Good Deal
Because he's tucked away in Milwaukee, few people are aware of the monster season Carlos Lee is having. The slugging outfielder is currently leading the majors in RBI and is tied for third in homers. Meanwhile, the man for whom he was traded, Scott Podsednik, has energized the White Sox and is leading both leagues in stolen bases. It’s rare that you see a trade work out so well for both teams.Rant Three: Twins Snakebit
A feel-good story took an unfortunate turn when Twins third baseman Glenn Williams separated his shoulder on June 28. The rookie will be out six to eight weeks. What makes this particularly disappointing is that Williams waited 11 years before getting a shot in the big leagues and, up until the injury, was making the most of it. The 27-year-old Australian had collected a hit in his first 13 major league games and is currently hitting a gaudy .425 (17 for 40). With incumbent third baseman Michael Cuddyer floundering, the door was open for Williams to take over the position.
