Abreu, Angels Agree To Two-Year Deal

POSTED: 12:26 pm PST November 5, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and outfielder Bobby Abreu agreed to a two-year contract on Thursday.

The deal also includes a club option for the 2012 campaign.

Abreu finished the 2009 season, his first with the club and 14th as a pro, stealing 30 bases while hitting .293 with 15 homers, 29 doubles and 103 RBI in 152 games.

"We are excited to have Bobby and the presence he brings to our organization," said Angels general manager Tony Reagins. "He was an integral part of what we accomplished in 2009 and we look forward to his contributions both on and off the field."

The 35-year-old reached the 100 RBI mark for the seventh consecutive season, matching Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez for the longest active streak in the majors. He's also swiped 20-or-more bases for 11 straight years, the longest current streak in MLB.

Abreu was a key factor for the AL West champions' victory over the Red Sox in the ALDS, batting .556 with two doubles, four walks and four runs scored.
