POSTED: 4:58 pm PDT October 31, 2009

(Sports Network) - Giorgio Tavecchio connected on a 24-yard field goal in the final minute of regulation to give the California Golden Bears a 23-21 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils in Pac-10 play at Sun Devil Stadium.

Kevin Riley threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns for California (6-2, 3-2 Pac-10), while Jahvid Best totaled 124 yards (63 rushing and 61 receiving) and finished the game with one score.

As for the Sun Devils (4-4, 2-3), they were paced by Danny Sullivan, who threw for 244 yards and one touchdown in the loss.

The Golden Bears dominated the first quarter of action, as Riley tossed two touchdown passes to give Cal an early 14-0 edge.

The first TD pass was an 11-yard strike to Best less than five minutes into the contest. The second score was a 12-yard strike that went to Marvin Jones with a little over four minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

The Sun Devils returned the favor in the second frame however, as Arizona State scored consecutive touchdowns, beginning with a three-yard touchdown pass from Samson Szakacsy to Jovon Williams. The second touchdown came from the arm of Sullivan, as the signal caller connected with Kyle Williams for an 80-yard scoring strike.

A 25-yard field goal by Tavecchio in the final minute of the first half gave the Golden Bears a 17-14 lead as the two teams went into the break.

Tavecchio put Cal up six points midway through the third quarter with a 51- yard field goal.

The Sun Devils were not phase though, as Cameron Marshall scored on a six-yard run early in the fourth quarter, putting Arizona State on top, 21-20.

The Golden Bears were relentless down the stretch however, and used an 11- play, 74-yard drive to set up the game winning field goal for Tavecchio.
