Report: Dodgers Owner McCourt Fires Wife From Front Office Role

POSTED: 10:51 pm PDT October 25, 2009

(Sports Network) - Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt has reportedly fired his wife, Jamie, from her role as the team's chief executive amid the couple's recent separation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the situation will now be handed over to the legal system because Jamie McCourt considers herself a co-owner of the team. It is unknown if she will retain her position within the organization while the court battle plays out.

The team announced last week that the McCourts had separated, and Frank McCourt's attorney reportedly has documents to support that notion that he is the sole owner of the franchise; however, California law states that all assets accumulated during marriage are split in half sans a settlement.

The report also states that Jamie McCourt is believed to be lining up potential investors to buy out her husband and gain control of the team.

Frank McCourt has owned the Dodgers since 2004, when he bought a controlling interest of the team from Fox Entertainment Group.

The club has experienced a drastic improvement since the new ownership, having advanced to the National League Championship Series in each of the last two seasons. General manager Ned Colletti also received a multi-year extension on Wednesday, the same day the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs with a loss to the Phillies.
