Muncie, IN -- (Sports Network) - Tyler Sheehan completed 28-of-41 pass attempts for 376 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bowling Green Falcons to a 31-17 win over the Ball State Cardinals in a Mid-American Conference battle at Scheumann Stadium.

Freddie Barnes led the Falcons (3-2, 2-1 MAC) receiving corps with 10 catches for 160 yards and three touchdowns, while Chris Wright made six grabs for 106 yards.

The Cardinals (0-7, 0-3) were paced by tailback MiQuale Lewis, who carried the ball 18 times for 115 yards. Eric Williams added 88 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries for BSU, which gained 273 yards on the ground.

The Falcons grabbed an early 7-0 lead when Sheehan and Barnes hooked up for a 21-yard touchdown strike on the game's opening drive.

Sheehan and Barnes got back to work early in the second quarter, this time from 33 yards out to give the Falcons a 14-0 advantage.

BGSU added to its lead midway through the third quarter, when Jerry Phillips connected on a 44-yard field goal to give the Falcons a 17-0 advantage.

Sheehan and Barnes hooked up again in the closing seconds of the first half, this time for a six-yard score, sending their team into the locker room with a comfortable 24-0 lead.

BSU answered the call on the opening drive of the third quarter, as Williams ripped off a 30-yard touchdown run to make it a 24-7 contest

The Falcons extended their lead to 31-7 just minutes later, when Chris Bullock scampered 26 yards for the score.

The Cardinals responded on their ensuing drive with a 28-yard field goal by Steven Schott.

Williams added a two-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough as BGSU managed to hold on for the 31-17 victory.

BGSU's defense struggled against the run, but did a good job versus the pass, holding BSU to a dismal 10-of-30 performance for just 131 yards and an interception.
