Can Big Ben Win Again?

Time zips by. It was a mere seven months ago -- Feb. 1 -- when the Pittsburgh Steelers slipped by the upstart Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl 43.

At the controls for a heart-stopping fourth-quarter winning drive was Big Ben Roethlisberger. The Steeler QB hit Santionio Holmes to cap a 27-23 win, earning Pittsburgh its sixth Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

This year, Ben is back, but not without offseason angst. He suffered a foot injury that forced him to sit out one preseason game. He was also named in a civil lawsuit, accused of sexual assault. Roethlisberger maintains his innocence, and police are not investigatig.

Experts who study the Steelers don't think either distraction will make a difference as the season starts. The USA Today NFL Power Rankings have the Steelers at No. 1. Las Vegas oddsmakers have Pittsburgh as 7.5-1 favorites to win Super Bowl 44, behind New England.

Season Opener Opponent: Pittsburgh (12-4 in 2008) beat the Tennessee Titans (13-3 in 2008), 13-10 in overtime Thursday night.

Obscure Roethlisberger Fact: He revealed in a 2006 interview that he is a close friend of Donald Trump, and that they speak weekly.

Question To Kick Around: Does anyone really think the Steelers can become the first team since New England (2005) to repeat as Super Bowl champs?
