Beckham Criticized By Teammate In Book

Donovan Says Soccer Star Isn't Committed To Galaxy

David Beckham was the subject of criticism from his Los Angeles Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan in a new book due out later this month, "The Beckham Experiment," ESPN reported

In the book, which was written by Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl, Donovan said: "All that we care about at a minimum is that he committed himself to us. … As time has gone on, that has not proven to be the case in many ways -- on the field, off the field."

According to ESPN, Donovan also made comments about Beckham's high salary.

"If someone's paying you more than anybody in the league, more than double anybody in the league, the least we expect is that you show up to every game, whether you are suspended or not. Show up and train hard, show up and play hard," Donovan said in the book, according to ESPN.

In the book, Donovan reportedly said that Beckham seemed to be committed to playing for the team when he first arrived, but that he thinks the English soccer star stopped trying after the team's coach, Ruud Gullit, quit before the end of Beckham's first season with the Galaxy.

According to ESPN, Donovan even went as far as to call Beckham a bad teammate who didn't show any "dedication or commitment to this team."

Beckham missed half of the 2009 MLS season while he was playing on loan to AC Milan. According to ESPN, he is expected to make his return to the Galaxy on July 16.
