Pomare made 10-of-12 free throws, as San Diego (16-15) moves on to tangle with fourth-seeded Santa Clara in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Roberto Mafra contributed 14 points and six boards, and Rob Jones had 10 points and six rebounds in the winning effort.

Kevin Young led LMU (3-28) and all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jarred DuBois tallied 18 points, as the Lions finished with a school record for losses in a season.

The Lions led at the half, 31-28, as they connected on 45.8 percent of their attempts from the floor over the first 20 minutes of action.

San Diego turned it around in the second period, dropping in 52.6 percent of its shots from the field and 13-of-16 at the foul line for the six-point win.

The Toreros simply dominated the boards, 38-16, and that helped to compensate for their 20 turnovers.
