Roger Clemens was back in the headlines Monday when the New York Daily News reported that the seven-time Cy Young Award winner had a decade-long affair with country music star Mindy McCready.

According to the Daily News, the romance began when McCready was 15 -- before she hit it big as a singer -- and Clemens, a married 28-year-old father of two, was pitching for the Red Sox.

The newspaper reported that details of the affair could surface when McCready, who's attempting a comeback, is working on several projects that include a documentary, a new album and a reality show.

Clemens' lawyer, Rusty Hardin, told the Daily News that the pitcher confirmed having a long-term relationship with McCready, but denied that it was sexual. He reportedly considered the singer to be a longtime family friend.

Brian McNamee, Clemens' former trainer who claimed he injected the pitcher with performance-enhancing drugs, told the Daily News he saw Clemens and McCready together on several occasions, including in the pitcher's apartment in Toronto.

Sources told the Daily News that Clemens met McCready when she was singing in a Fort Myers, Fla., bar. Clemens, who was with his Red Sox teammates, threw an autographed shirt to her onstage.

The Daily News also reported that McCready did not know Clemens was married until she read his bio in a program while attending a baseball game.

Clemens is currently under investigation for perjury after he denied ever having used performance-enhancing drugs to Congress and federal officials.

McCready also dealt with struggles throughout her career. She was arrested in 2004 for prescription fraud and served time in jail last year after she violated her probation for allegedly hitting her mother.

According to the Daily News, McCready reportedly cut ties with Clemens as far back as 2006.
