Red-Light Controversy Heads To Washington
Roger Hedgecock Set To Testify
WASHINGTON -- San Diego's red-light camera controversy will be the focus of a federal hearing in Washington this week.
KOGO radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock (pictured, left) will speak before a House of Representatives sub-committee Tuesday. The former mayor will ask lawmakers to set minimum time standards for yellow lights.
Hedgecock believes that the cameras are designed, not for safety, but to trap drivers so that cities can make money.
Meanwhile, in a local class-action lawsuit, a judge delayed his ruling on the legitimacy of nearly 300 red-light camera tickets.
Judge Ronald Styn had said earlier that he would rule on the case by the end of July. Tuesday he said that he needed more time, and gave no time frame indicating when the ruling might come.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs have asked the judge to dismiss the tickets.
