Time Magazine Reports Cunningham Wore Wire To Help Investigators

Cunningham Pleaded Guilty To Taking Bribes

UPDATED: 5:12 pm PST January 9, 2006

Former U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham may be doing more than naming names in his plea deal, 10News reported.

Cunningham pleaded guilty in late November to taking more than $2 million in bribes, including a yacht and a Rolls Royce from a defense contractor.

Time magazine reported Cunningham recorded conversations for the government before he pleaded guilty to accepting bribes.

The identity of those who met with Cunningham is unknown.

The FBI has declined comment.

Lawyers for Cunningham are denying published reports he wore a wire to collect evidence on behalf of the government.

In a statement Monday, Cunningham's lawyers said the story is false and Cunningham never wore a body wire during any conversations with his former congressional colleagues or any other public official.
