A California Highway Patrol sergeant has announced that he will seek the congressional seat previously held by Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

Jeff Newsome thus becomes the 10th candidate and eighth Republican to join the race in the 50th Congressional District.

Newsome is a former San Diego County CHP officer now working in San Bernardino County. He pledges to restore honesty in politics.

Cunningham resigned in November after admitting taking $2.4 million in bribes while in office.
