U.S. Attorneys Office Blasts Congressman Cunningham

Congressman Accused Of Accepting Bribe

Federal prosecutors are blasting U.S. Rep. Randy Duke Cunningham in recently filed court papers, 10News reported.

The U.S. Attorneys office is publicly saying that the Rancho Santa Fe Republican demanded and received a bribe from a Pentagon contractor, in exchange for which he allegedly let himself be influenced in the performance of his official acts.

Attorneys for Cunningham, who has said he showed poor judgement but committed no wrongdoing, dismissed the allegation.

Cunningham sold his Del Mar home to defense contractor, Mitchell Wade, at what may have been an inflated price.

Cunningham took that money to buy a $2.5 million mansion in Rancho Santa Fe.

The government is now trying to take the Rancho Santa Fe home, accusing Cunningham of buying the house with money he got illegally.

More than eight months after buying the Del Mar-area property, Wade sold it at a $700,000 loss.

The Congressman maintains that he did nothing wrong.
