For months, San Diegans have watched as Mayor Dick Murphy battles mayoral candidate Ron Roberts for the mayor's seat. Now, there might be one more person in contention for the top spot, 10News reported.

Sixth District Councilwoman Donna Frye is seriously considering running for mayor, according to 10News.

Frye cited overwhelming support from constituents asking her to run for mayor as a write-in candidate. She has served as councilwoman for three years and was the lone dissenting vote two years ago when the City Council voted to increase benefits and not contributions in the city's pension system.

Frye said she is leaning toward a run because she has been frustrated by the city's financial problems and wants to offer the people another choice.

"I just think it's business as usual ... I don't see the spark. I don't see the drive, the passion, the desire to go out and serve the public," Frye said.

To qualify, Frye would offer 200 signatures and would have to pay $500 before Oct. 19. She said she will make her decision within 48 hours.
