SAN DIEGO -- The Air America Radio network, which bills itself as a liberal alternative to conservative talk radio, launched in San Diego on Monday. It can be heard on KLSD AM 1360, previously known as KPOP.
KLSD is operated by Clear Channel Communications, which also carries conservative voices such as Rush Limbaugh and former San Diego mayor Roger Hedgecock."I think it is going to be refreshing. I think they are going to hear a point of view they simply don't get on the radio. There's not going to be a constant drumbeat of party politics," longtime radio personality Stacy Taylor said.Taylor hosts a morning show each weekday starting at 6 a.m.
The progressive format also includes national radio personalities such as Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo.A former writer and performer on television's "Saturday Night Live," Franken has also written the best-selling books "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" and "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right."The network is currently on air in 25 cities in the United States.
