Malone Had To Prove He Had Enough Assets For Bond

A key figure in the corruption probe of San Diego City Hall was due in court Tuesday.

Lance Malone

Lobbyist Lance Malone (pictured, left) appeared in federal court for a bail status hearing, five days after a magistrate warned him that he could wind up in jail unless he could demonstrate that he had enough assets to pledge as collateral for his release on $250,000 bond.

Malone was indicted last month on charges of taking part in an alleged scheme to pay three city councilmen for efforts to repeal a city law prohibiting nude dancers and patrons from touching each other.

He's been charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, extortion and interstate travel in aid of racketeering.

Malone's next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 23.
