City Council members Ralph Inzunza, Charles Lewis and Michael Zucchet released statements Thursday after being indicted on charges of taking bribes from a strip club owner to repeal a no-touch ordinance.

A lawyer for Lewis, (pictured, left), said his client is extremely unhappy that he was indicted by a federal grand jury.

"He doesn't believe that his conduct justifies the indictment," Frank Ragen told KGTV.

Inzunza said he looks forward to his day in court so he can clear his name.

"I am looking forward to my day in court so that I can clear my name and that of my family," said Inzunza, (pictured, right), who was elected to the Council in a February 2001 special election, then was re-elected in March 2002.

"To my wife Ana, to my friends and to the citizens of San Diego who I represent, I want you all to know I've never lied to you, I've never let you down and I love you all," he said.

Zucchet said he will fight the wire fraud, conspiracy and extortion allegations contained in a federal indictment "to the bitter end."

Flanked by his wife, 4-month-old daughter and numerous other family members and supporters, Zucchet, (pictured, left), was adamant.

"I reiterate my complete and total denial of taking any bribes. Period. I am completely innocent," he said. "I am a friend of law enforcement. I have never been arrested or charged with any crime in my life. Now I find myself in this unbelievable situation. I will fight these charges. I will fight them to the bitter end to prove my innocence."

He said he will fulfill his term in office, which ends in 2006.

"I am going to fulfill all the duties of my office and fight these charges at the same time."
