Other Local Propositions

Four cities will ask voters on Tuesday to approve tax increases, while one municipality is proposing the repeal of a previous tax boost.

Proposition H would allow the city of Del Mar to increase its hotel room tax from 10.5 percent to as much as 13 percent, which officials project will bring more than $400,000 to the city's general fund.

Proposition J is a half-cent sales tax for 20 years that supporters claim will help the city of El Cajon avoid budget cutbacks.

Proposition K would enact a special 2 percent hotel tax in Encinitas to be applied to vacation rentals of less than 30 days, with revenues designated for beach sand erosion and stabilization projects.

Proposition L is for the city of La Mesa, which would increase its sales tax by three-quarters of a cent for 20 years to pay for municipal services.

The cutback is Proposition M in National City. If approved, a one-cent sales tax enacted two years ago will be repealed. Supporters say National City has the highest sales tax in the state but the lowest per-capita income in San Diego County.

All require 50 percent plus one vote for approval except for the Encinitas measure, which needs a two-thirds majority.
