Report: Padres Give GM Job To Hoyer

POSTED: 7:07 pm PDT October 24, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Padres have chosen Jed Hoyer as their new general manager, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Hoyer, 35, becomes one of the youngest general managers in baseball after serving in the Red Sox front office since 2002. His most recent title was senior vice president and assistant general manager.

New Padres owner Jeff Moorad recently fired longtime general manager Kevin Towers earlier this month after Towers held the title since 1995 -- the longest tenured general manager at the time of his dismissal.

Hoyer becomes the eighth general manager in the history of the Padres, a team that has yet to win a World Series title since their inception in 1969. San Diego had recorded two consecutive losing campaigns, including a 75-87 mark in 2009.
