Antonio Terrell Arnold, Mario Deangelo Townsend Accused Of Robbing Carl’s Jr. In La Mesa

Two men are in jail Monday morning in connection with an armed robbery at a fast food restaurant in La Mesa Sunday night.

The hold up happened at Carl's Jr. in the 8000 block of Parkway Drive just off Fletcher Parkway.

One customer and several employees were in the restaurant when the two men with guns showed up just before 9 p.m.

The men ordered employees to the ground and forced the cooks in the back to crawl to the front, according to employees who watched the surveillance video.

The robbers stole just over $900 cash from the register and a safe before leaving the area on foot. Their faces were partially covered, but the victims were able to give police a description of the pair.

A short time later, an officer monitoring an intersection nearby spotted a car with two people inside matching the description of the robbers.

The officer followed the car until it eventually pulled off westbound interstate 8 on Adobe Falls Road and Waring Road in Mission Valley.

Police said the officer saw one of the men throw a gun out the window.

Police arrested 31-year old Antonio Arnold and 30-year-old Mario Deangelo without incident.

Investigators said they recovered some of the cash, but were unable to locate a second weapon. They also searched the home of one of the suspects, but would not say what, if anything was found.

This is the 11th robbery at a business in La Mesa since just last month. Investigators said they don't think the pair is connected to the recent series of hold ups, but they'll check with other agencies and look into the backgrounds of both suspects.
