3 Rewards Offered In 'Geezer Bandit' Robbery Series

SAN DIEGO -- Three rewards totaling $16,000 are on offer Wednesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the "Geezer Bandit," a retirement-age robber responsible for armed holdups at five San Diego-area banks since summer.The thin, gray-haired man who appears to be in his 70s most recently struck Monday evening at a Bank of America branch on Girard Avenue in La Jolla, according to the FBI.Previous heists attributed to the man, who got his moniker from detectives, occurred Oct. 26 at a Bank of America branch on Avenida de Acacias in Rancho Santa Fe; Oct. 9 at a US Bank on Carmel Mountain Road in Torrey Hills; Sept. 12 at a San Diego National Bank on Ivanhoe Avenue in La Jolla; and Aug. 28 at a US Bank on Mission Gorge Road in Santee.
During several of the robberies, the stubble-faced thief displayed a pistol while demanding cash, the FBI reported. Surveillance cameras have captures images of the bandit.Anyone with knowledge of his identity or whereabouts is urged to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
