A 44-year-old man fatally injured in a bicycle crash in the La Jolla Shores area was identified Monday, authorities said.

Alan Nash of La Jolla lost control of his bicycle while making a right turn from northbound Lowry Terrace to El Paseo Grande shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday, according to San Diego police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Nash, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered critical injuries when his head struck the pavement, SDPD Officer Brad Ruff said.

Medics took him to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where physicians pronounced him dead about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
