Main Break Leaves 32 Homes Without Water

LA MESA, Calif. -- Authorities were trying to determine Monday what caused a 6-inch cast-iron water main to rupture, leaving 32 residences without water in southwest La Mesa.The break near Rolando Knolls Drive and Gordon Way was reported at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, according to La Mesa fire spokesman Sonny Saghera. A similar break occurred around eight months ago in the same general area.Sunday's break caused some minor water damage to two homes on Rolando Knolls and four homes on 70th Street, Saghera said.
Water was delivered to affected residences by truck while crews worked to repair the broken main.Gordon Way was closed to all traffic until crews can determine it's safe to drive on, according to Saghera. As of early Monday, it was unclear when Gordon Way might re-open.
