LA MESA, Calif. -- A Vista man was in custody Thursday in connection with the gang-related shooting of another man in a motel parking lot, the La Mesa Police Department announced.

Maurice White, 23, was arrested Wednesday by members of the East County Gang Task Force, police said.

Investigators last week released surveillance video taken around the time of the Aug. 23 shooting at the Heritage Inn at 7851 Fletcher Parkway.

Police said someone at the county Probation Department recognized White on the video.

The victim, who was hit by three bullets, was found in his vehicle at the motel. He was transported to the hospital and was last reported in good condition.

Police said the gunman was seen by witnesses going into a motel room, but officers were unable to find him.

White was later arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and participating in a criminal street gang.
