UPDATED: 5:51 pm PDT August 11, 2008

A 34-year-old man was in custody Monday on suspicion of murder at an independent living facility in Bay Terraces over the weekend, police said.

Daniel Cruz allegedly attacked 59-year-old John Roberts sometime before 6:30 a.m. Sunday in a bedroom at New Beginnings Room and Board at 6377 Division St., San Diego police Lt. Terry McManus said.

It appeared Roberts suffered blunt force trauma while he was sleeping during the night, but a cause of death was not immediately established, McManus said.

Cruz and Roberts had been involved in an ongoing dispute, he said. The nature on the dispute was not immediately disclosed.
