SAN DIEGO - A technician was rescued after becoming stranded on a scaffolding outside a Coronado condominium complex Monday afternoon.

The incident was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. at one of the El Mirador Tower units on 1830 Avenida Del Mundo in Coronado, according to the Coronado Fire Department.

Fire officials said the 40-foot scaffolding malfunctioned and was dangling in a vertical position near the top of the 15-story building. The worker was hanging by his safety harness, authorities said.

Fire department personnel helped pull the man to safety through a balcony about 25 minutes later.

Residents in approximately nine units near and below the platform were asked to stay inside and away from windows as crews worked to bring the scaffolding down.

No injuries were reported.
